Who we are
LearnChineseNews is a Chinese-language reading app built for learners. It is operated by WuweiLabs, based in Singapore. When this policy says “we” or “us”, it refers to WuweiLabs.
Age requirement
This app is intended for users aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Data we collect
We collect very little data. Here is what we do and do not collect:
Data stored on your device only
Saved articles, bookmarks, dictionary entries, reading preferences (theme, font size, language), and article cache are all stored locally on your device. We never have access to this data — it never leaves your device.
Crash & error reports
The app automatically sends anonymous crash and error reports to a self-hosted error-monitoring service (GlitchTip). These reports include a random device-generated ID, device model, OS version, and error details. They do not include your name, email, or any content you have read. This data is used solely to find and fix bugs.
Article URLs you submit
When you use the “Parse” feature to submit a news article URL, we store that URL on our server in order to process the article. We do not link submitted URLs to any personal identity.
Data we do not collect
- No user accounts or login credentials
- No personal information (name, email, phone, location)
- No usage analytics or behavioural tracking
- No advertising identifiers
- No payment or financial data
Third-party services
The app interacts with the following third-party services:
- GlitchTip (self-hosted) — receives anonymous crash reports as described above.
- Pleco — if you choose to look up a word in the Pleco dictionary app, the word is passed to Pleco via a URL scheme. This is initiated by you and governed by Pleco’s privacy policy.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
Marketing website
Our website (learnchinese.news) does not use analytics, tracking cookies, or any third-party scripts beyond Google Fonts for typography.
Data security
All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. Since we store minimal data, there is minimal risk. We do not store server-side logs of your API requests or IP addresses.
Your rights
Because we collect almost no personal data, there is very little for us to hand over or delete. If you have any concern about data associated with you, contact us and we will address it.

If we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to check back occasionally.
